ADC participates in new edition of the Conference of States Parties to the CRPD

The Association for Civil Rights (ADC) participated in the 15th session of the Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), held from June 14 to 16 at the United Nations headquarters in New York City.  Our PUEDA – For an Accessible Digital Environment project submitted a written statement and shared its research on Access to information and communication services and persons with disabilities in the region.

The object of the meeting was to elect nine members of the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and generate a debate among representatives of States Parties to the Convention, NGOs and National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs), as well as United Nations entities.

In its presentation, ADC, as an accredited NGO to the Conference of States Parties to the CRPD (COSP), emphasized two of the main conclusions drawn from the study mentioned above, carried out in Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay: the considerable gap between the current regulation and the reality of websites and portals, despite the constitutional hierarchy fact that the International Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities has in all three countries, and the little knowledge on the subject, in society in general and even in areas related to disability.

ADC concluded by expressing its willingness to continue the contact established, in order to deepen the organization’s vision, share its findings related to digital accessibility and cooperate with the Conference of the States Parties to the CRPD in addressing digital accessibility to promote human rights in digital environments.
