Contributions to RELE on hate speech and criminalization of women in the region

The Association for Civil Rights (ADC) presented inputs on the digital dimension of hate speech for the report that the Office of the Special Rapporteur for Freedom of Expression (RELE) of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) is preparing on violence against women and girls who publicly speak out and defend their rights.

The document reviews the main conclusions of More than words: seeking consensus to characterize hate speech launched by the organization in 2020. Among them, we highlight different aspects of hate speech as a social practice: sexist hierarchization, its discriminatory expression and the symbolic violence it entails.
