ADC submits contributions to RELE and UNESCO regarding Universal Periodic Review
On January 11, the Association for Civil Rights responded to the public consultations opened by the IACHR Special Rapporteur for Freedom of Expression (RELE in Spanish) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The purpose is to cooperate in the consultation phase of a project that seeks to identify the recurring challenges and best practices for stakeholders of the Americas in the United Nations Universal Periodic Review (UPR).
It should be recalled that at the end of 2022, ADC made contributions to the UPR-Info Pre-sessions 42 in Switzerland, where we expressed concern about the failure of the Argentinian Congress to appoint a National Ombudsperson, the perils faced by freedom of expression and privacy protection.
On this occasion, our recommendations aim to improve the process of creating and submitting input, considering the importance of working with other international organizations. In addition, we suggest fostering alliances and direct advocacy with key actors attending the sessions and creating spaces for the report of human rights violations.
