ADC collaborates in volume 2 of the latest RIPD Civil Society Forum comparative study

The Asociación por los Derechos Civiles (Association for Civil Rights – ADC) participated in the drafting of the recently launched Comparative Study of Data Protection Agencies – Argentina and Mexico, a joint report prepared by the organizations belonging to the RIPD Civil Society Forum, of which ADC is a member.

The document, a fundamental guide to understanding the activity of the agencies in the region, examines key aspects such as goals, legislation, and legal attributions. Written by ADC and reviewed by the Network in Defense of Digital Rights (R3D), this is the second volume of the research, focusing on the agencies of Argentina and Mexico. The first release, dedicated to Peru, Paraguay, and Colombia, was published last month and can be downloaded here. A third volume on the agencies in Costa Rica, Panama, and Brazil is to be published soon.

ADC at the RIPD Civil Society Forum

In 2018, an initiative led by ADC and other organizations in the region prompted the Ibero-American Data Protection Network (RIPD) to amend its rules of procedure to strengthen the participation of civil society in its activities and meetings. These changes set the groundwork for the Civil Society Forum (FSC), which serves as a link between civil society and the Ibero-American Data Protection Network (RIPD), aiming to contribute with knowledge and a human rights perspective.

Subsequently, between September and November 2020, ADC participated in the organization and dissemination of the successful series of webinars held by the RIPD Civil Society Forum, titled Contributions of Civil Society to the Protection of Data, National Experiences of Data Protection and COVID-19 and the Protection of personal data.

On the other hand, last February, ADC took part in the 2023 edition of the Ibero-American Meeting on Personal Data Protection through its project officer Luis García Balcarce. Our researcher presented the paper Privacy is Health. An inquiry into the health technologies deployed in Argentina and their impact on personal data protection. The event, organized by the RIPD, was held in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia.
