Last May 15-16, ADC was invited to participate in the Global CBPR Forum, Spring 2024 Workshop: Taking Off!, in Tokyo Japan, to discuss some of the most urgent topics related to global data governance.
The workshop was organized by the U.S. International Trade Administration (ITA), the Personal Information Protection Commission (PPC), Japan, and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), Japan.
Valeria Milanes, ADC´s Co-Director, participated in the workshop, sharing her perspective and experience on data and AI governance, in meaningful dialogue with stakeholders to seek effective and improved incidence towards privacy and fundamental rights and freedoms fulfillment.
Over two-intensive work days, different aspects of the Global Cross Border Privacy Rules Forum´s accountability systems were analyzed in detail, including its interoperability with other systems, in a global context characterized by fragmented regulatory frameworks and practices and its potential connection to artificial intelligence governance, among other aspects.
Milanes was a speaker in a panel dedicated to Privacy and Digital Trade development in The Americas, in which she shared thoughts related to privacy and data protection in different trade and e-commerce agreements celebrated by Mercosur, Argentina, and other LAC countries with other regions and countries.
She was joined on this panel by representatives of the U.S. State Department and data protection authorities from Mexico, Brazil, Peru, Uruguay, and Argentina.
