Fintech: privacy challenges in the data economy

Under the promise of greater inclusion and financial education, fintech – the Anglo-Saxon contracting of “financial technology”- come to rethink how financial services are provided.

In this report, we explore the recent growth of the fintech sector in Argentina, considering the new dynamics promoted for the development of a digital economy. In this context, the data generated by people throughout their digital lives are especially relevant. The construction of a society in which there is exhaustive profiling of all people can result in an immediate future that promotes greater inequality and discrimination.

For our first exploration of the subject, we focused on presenting the questions that, from civil society, we consider necessary to introduce, regarding the exercise and enjoyment of the right to privacy, so that the development of the sector has in mind a social good.
