The identity we can’t change – How biometrics undermine our human rights
This report is a continuation of the work begun in previous years by ADC in the field of biometrics. We start by explaining what are the main problems in the field of biometrics from a technological point of view, we explore the effects that surveillance has on the behavior of people, and we briefly narrate where the world stands in the debate about identification technologies.
Furthermore, we dedicate an exclusive chapter to the Federal Biometric Identification System for Security (SIBIOS, for its acronym in Spanish), where we analyze its operation, what data is being collected, what is the process of collecting said data, the organisms and provinces that are part of SIBIOS, the technology used, and the practical uses of the System.
Finally, we conclude by pondering the implementation of technology for biometric identification and the current and potential violation of fundamental rights.
