ADC publishes a new PubliElectoral report on Mexican 2021 Elections

ADC (Association for Civil Rights) has just released a new report on the PubliElectoral project, in which we examine the adverts and publicity collected from social media during the campaign for Mexico’s mid-term federal elections held on June 6 2021, regarded as the biggest in that country’s history.

As a partner of the initiative, the Office for Mexico and Central America of Article 19 used the app for the occasion. The study is an analysis of the expenditure in social media, such as Facebook, made by political parties and their candidates during the campaign for the polls.

«In the largest elections in Mexico’s history, PubliElectoral is an example of how free software and the citizenry can join forces and demand greater transparency and accountability in political advertising expenditure on Facebook,» said Vladimir Cortés, from the Digital Rights Program at Article 19.

The PubliElectoral application tool was developed by ADC and launched during the 2019 Argentinian presidential campaign. It arose from the need for an independent tool that could scrutinize election advertising in social media, with the cooperation of Internet users. In 2020, it was used in Chile to collect information on political ads related to the National Plebiscite of October that year.
