ADC submits contributions on business and human rights to the UN High Commissioner

The Association for Civil Rights (ADC) made two submissions to the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), in reply to the call for comments on the practical application of the Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights to the activities of tech companies, and specific issues related to the B-Tech project.

The first contribution was conceived from a domestic and a regional perspective and aimed at sharing information on two topics included in the consultation: human rights due diligence and the role of government in HR protection.

The second submission, which expands and complements the former, was made jointly with Global Partners Digital (GPD), Blogger’s Association of Kenya (BAKE), Institute for Policy Research and Advocacy (ELSAM), Paradigm Initiative Nigeria (PIN), and The IO Foundation (TIOF). Based on practical experience, it shares information and insights on the application of the Guiding Principles to tech firms, and addresses HR risks in business models, HR due diligence, and government’s duty to protect them, as well as its regulatory and political responses.
