ADC participates in federal consultation for new Disability Law

On May 19, the Association for Civil Rights (ADC) took part in the public hearing held by the National Agency for Disability (ANDIS) on the formulation of a new Disability Law.

The purpose of the meeting was to create a space for discussion, exchange views, and collect opinions and contributions from civil society and PWD organizations, as well as public agencies dealing with disability, unions, universities, and other key sectors.

On behalf of ADC, our project officer María Sol Abichain presented our PUEDA – For an Accessible Digital Environment campaign, and the study titled Access to Information and Communication Services and People with Disabilities.

In her speech, Abichain pointed out that «accessibility, in general, allows people to interact socially with greater autonomy and efficacy. Digital accessibility, in particular, grants them access to information and services which are available in the online sphere, such as websites, applications, and platforms, and with any type of device, through specific software design and programming». 

«Digital accessibility is fundamental, and due to the rapid pace of digital transformation in recent times, its mainstreaming is key to guarantee citizens the exercise of their rights,» she added.

Complementing Abichain’s presentation, ADC submitted a document to ANDIS, with contributions and recommendations to be considered before the future draft of the new Disability Law.
