ADC signs letter of commitment against online gender violence

Within the context of International Women’s Day on March 8, ADC signed a ten-point plan to prevent and eradicate online gender violence together with other civil society organizations, journalists, referents, and the Public Defender’s Office of Buenos Aires City.

Julieta Cravero, ADC Strategic Communication leader, spoke at the event and endorsed the letter on behalf of the organization. The meeting took place on Thursday, March 9, at the Ombudsman’s Office.
The missive mainly aims at achieving joint action between the government, civil society, and companies to prevent, address, and eradicate this problem. The items mentioned include law reform and enforcement, awareness raising, training and research, and others.

Our communication leader referred to online gender violence as “an issue that is not totally new but derives from the pre-digital era; the difference is that this is a more dynamic challenge.» On the other hand, she emphasized the need to avoid «trampling on other rights, such as freedom of expression.»

In addition to ADC, the letter was signed by UN Women, UNICEF, Abofem, CELS, CIPPEC, Chicas en Tecnología (Women in Technology), Chicos Net, Equipo Latinoamericano de Género y Justicia (ELA), Faro Digital, Las de Sistemas, Red de Editoras de Género (Gender Publishers’ Network), Mariana Carbajal and Noelia Barral Grigera, among other organizations and referents.
