ADC releases PubliElectoral report and warns on lack of transparency in 2021 elections

The Association for Civil Rights (ADC) has presented the conclusions of its PubliElectoral analysis of the last legislative campaign. PubliElectoral is a software tool that allows collecting information on election spending in social networks. The main finding of our report is the lack of transparency in the accounting of political expenditure.

The app examined 178 accounts belonging to different parties and candidates, 15,915 posts, and 460 ads from 5 jurisdictions in the Province of Buenos Aires, City of Buenos Aires (CABA), Cordoba, Mendoza, and Santa Fe.

Of the accounts considered, 21 included unreported political advertising. The unofficial account Dar el Paso, for example, spent $1,955,285 in election ads. Some of the candidates, such as Nicolás Del Caño, José Luis Espert and Anabel Fernández Sagasti among others, also registered undeclared expenses.

The Law on Financing Political Parties establishes that before each election, a party must submit a detailed report of the contributions received and the expenditure planned and made throughout the campaign. To this means, the report includes some recommendations to improve transparency in the accounting of political posts on social media.
