Exploring State Practices and Uses of Big Data Technology

The use of Big Data is new in Argentina. Some incursions have been made by the scien- tific and technical academy, the government and companies to develop it. However, generally speaking, we may say that up to now, the concepts of “Big Data”, “big data processing” and “massive use of information” are not that present in society in general, nor in public discourse or in civil society organizations.

The importance of this subject is evident, given that, despite the lack of public aware- ness of almost every aspect of this technology, the velocity with which it is being used (as is the case with every new technological trend) calls for its consideration. Public initiatives such as the case study chosen, as well as the current commercial practices, show that Big Data is here to stay.
